Vine 2 | March 3, 2019 | quarter inch quilling strips

I made this one using two strips of vines. The March 2 heart was made with four strips.

Vine | March 2, 2019 | one-eighth inch strips hand shredded

I saw a video on instagram using a comb to create this vine. I pulled out my little “husking board” to try this technique.

I used text weight paper I cut using a small desktop hand-cranked shredder. You can see how the blade cut the strips. This shredder creates one-eighth inch width strips.

The first effort didn’t go well. It took a few times to create the loops.

This little board can be configured in multiple ways with the little pins.

Scraps

Scraps | March 1, 2019 | Card stock Strips

It was a lazy day. I made some strips today from scraps of card stock.

I have tried a million ways to shred up card stock.

A pasta cutter has been the best so far …

It offers a smoother edge for the card stock strips.

This is a low-tech way to make some strips. Plus, it’s easier to cut random pieces since you don’t have to put on a mat like with the silhouette.

Random scrap pieces of paper to repurpose.

It’s also easier (for me) to cut up random books, magazines, or catalogs with this type of cutter too.

Card stock paper is typically heavier than a text weight paper. It creates a different pattern than a quilling weight strip.

Open Coils

I made this heart smaller, so I could put more strips on the outside of the heart.

Petals

A little flower surrounded by beehive strips.

I’ve been asked how I make the heart shapes. It’s a single strip of card stock, creased in half, then glued at the top. You can shape it in several different ways too.

Heart Filled Heart

Heart Filled Heart | Feb. 25, 2019 | Card stock strips

I tore random lengths of paper to create different size hearts. There are a few gaps, but it creates a heart-y (LOL) pattern.

More Circles

More Circles | Feb. 24, 2019 | one-eighth inch quilling strips

My husband looked at me today and asked, “Now, why are you always making hearts?”

He has apparently missed the random FB posts I’ve made about this project.

While I intended to make most of hearts in that odd time between being ready and leaving for school drop off, I haven’t done that. I’ve made them after homework and before bedtime.
