J: Dictionary Pages | April 10, 2019 | Children’s illustrated dictionary pages cut into strips

Oh. My. Gosh. I finally had to change the dictionary I shredded for this project.

The original one had such limited capabilities. The pages couldn’t hold a shape. The lack of variety bothered me.

I found three larger format dictionaries in the basement. I may or may not have a collection of books ready for craft projects.

The paper in this dictionary definitely holds a shape better!

You can see the difference in page color, texture, and weight in the J (left) and I (right). The new dictionary has a white page with color illustrations.

I wanted to complete the entire month with the same book. After complaining for several days about the older dictionary pages, I began to wonder why I was forcing myself to use a paper I didn’t like.

I plan to use the new dictionary pages for a few days to see how it works out.

I’ve been trying to lower the number of pages I shred each day. I tried three today and it didn’t work. The picture below shows how far three pages took me.

I’ve been trying to add a heart in each letter.

I made marquise shapes and then squished them into this C shape. After my A fiasco of seeing my pencil lines for the letter, I am now using a white pencil to draw the shape before I begin filling it up.

This one feels a bit snake-like in texture to me. I’ll have to remember if for S.

Dictionary page strips are formed into marquise shapes.

Here are my first three letters lined up. By B-Day (April 2), I was regretting my decision to use the dictionary pages. It’s more challenging than I anticipated. Of course, (insert eye roll) I guess that’s the point creating something every day … to be challenging.

I rolled the strips and placed them where you can see the words from the dictionary page.

I originally began crimping the strips before I created the coils. I began hating these dictionary pages with this B. I haven’t figured out the best way to utilize the strips.
